Specifically, the Ford Plug-In Hybrid comes with an extra set of batteries that can be recharged directly from the home grid when you get home. A full charge, which takes 6 to 8 hours, allows you to drive for 48 kilometers under ideal conditions.

Once this distance has been covered and all the 14.4 kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries have been drained, the vehicle becomes a regular hybrid, i.e. it uses the combined electric-petrol system that allows the secondary batteries to be recharged under braking.

Finally, it's worth noting that in terms of passive and active safety features, the new 2020 Escape Plug-In Hybrid breaks new ground. For example, if you're having trouble parking in tight spots in the city or backing up perpendicularly, with the Parking Assist 2.0 system you can now locate a parking spot, slow down, put the vehicle in neutral and activate the park button.
